WMSGA Tournaments and Events

The Women's Maine State Golf Association Tournaments and Events are divided into three categories. For detailed information please click on a category.

Weekly Tournaments
Each Tuesday from May through mid-October -- unless a special tournament is scheduled -- a weekly tournament is held at two different courses. Entrants pay a $23 entry fee. The weekly fee is waived for juniors. Fees are outlined in the handbook.

New for 2010, you may compete in an optional skins game for an additional $5, which must be sent in with your entry application.

Applications for weekly tournaments must be sent to the administrative assistant two weeks prior to the tournament. Check your handbook for open/close dates. Send one application and one check per person, per event to the administrative assistant.

Special Tournaments
Metropolitan - A four person best ball team event, the Metropolitan is held on two consecutive days-- usually a Monday and Tuesday in June.  Winners are posted each day.  Members make up their own teams for this event, and they may or may not be from the same club. The overall winning team, however, must be made up of members from the same club. This top prize goes to the team (from the same club) that posts the lowest score of the two days. Each team member will play with 90% of her course handicap. Winners will earn credit at the host club's pro shop. (see page 59 of your handbook for application and more information)

Tri-State - A 3-person/team match play event, Tri-State pits players from Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont in a contest to take home a traveling trophy and bragging rights. The tournament is played the third or fourth week in June on a Wednesday and Thursday. On day one, teams play a modified Chapman alternate shot; and on day two, individuals compete against golfers from New Hampshire and Vermont. Any member with a handicap of 33.9 or lower may apply for the team, which consists of 30 players in three divisions. The Tri-State committee selects the Maine team based on established criteria outlined in the handbook. A practice round on Monday is highly recommended.
