Course Record

Six-time state amateur champion Pennie Cummings of Wayne set a women's club record at Springbrook on July 17 with a 64, bettering the previous mark by five strokes.

She was playing in the Sadie Hawkins Tournament with Fred Warner, Sid Cohen, and Warren Burnham. Now, how does that expression go about shooting your age?

Maine Can't Hold On

After one day of rain-soaked Tri-State play at Waterville Country Club, Maine posted a ten-point lead over Vermont with New Hampshire trailing by another five points.

On the second day of competition, Maine fought valiantly in their individual matches to hold on to the lead. But Vermont came on strong and managed to edge out Maine by two points. The final point totals: Vermont 141, Maine 139, New Hampshire 125.

Next year's Tri-State event will be held at Green Mountain National in Killington, VT.

Every year many golfers are struck
by lightning
on golf courses.
Don't be one of them!
According to USGA Rule 6-8a:
Discontinuance of play is permitted when a player believes she is in danger from lightning.

In other words,
if you believe you are in a dangerous situation because of lightning, then you must discontinue play. You do not have to wait for a horn to sound. If, however, a horn is sounded, play must be discontinued.

Most courses will monitor weather conditions and sound a horn to bring you off the course in severe conditions, but sometimes it's not done in a timely manner and sometimes a horn can't be heard from every hole on a golf course.

Please take responsibility for yourself and leave the course as soon as you see or hear evidence of thunder or lightning in the vicinity -- whether you hear a horn or not.

Play it safe...
no golf tournament is worth your life!
